Cruise #9: Rebels With a Cause
We got the General and the Bandit!!!

The Cruise was great! Ok so maybe our next one will skip the island.... and not be paced by a 1000 plus horsepower drag car! (Just kidding Matt, great job) Two days of cruising for a cause picked up alot of money for Chelsea Hess, a girl in need. It also picked up some great new cars to go drive with us! A General Lee clone (440rt 69 Charger), a Bandit Trans Am and a 72' De Tomaso Pantera to name a few that were in their first outing of the SCMCS and are great additions to the best collection of muscle man has ever seen. Another favorite was Jaime Priddy and her beautiful Chevelle she built with her dad. Talk about "Girl Power!" Special thanks to Dasha V, who donated a huge portion of her print earnings to the cause and to everyone who came out, donated and made a difference in this girl's life!
This marks a new period for the SCMCS. We are still a young group, but the cars keep adding on. For the next few months we are gonna meet twice a month. I miss you guys, and for those of you that can't make a cruise, I'm going to put one right around the corner to get us all together again. To all of our new members, welcome to the SCMCS. We are drivers. We drive. Nuff said. Until the next time, "Keep the dirty side down!" -Brett

SCMCS: "Year Zero"
"An in depth look at the Muscle Militia"
So here we are rolling up on what will be the 1st birthday of the SCMCS. Although the club was founded in April of 2009, it really started when my brother got his 68 Tempest. I had always been a gearhead, my first and only car is still my daily driver and club beauty. Sure she needs some work, but those tires hit the pavement 300 days a year (adjusted 65 days in the shop, she's a Ford). Back in November of 08', I had tried to get all my friends to buy this damned 68 Poncho so I could have a driving buddy. No luck. Then one fateful night my brother said "I want it." The rest is history. Man, we started cruising like a mofo and I was so excited to get my brother into the passion. I never realized how close these cars can bring people together. My brother and I now have a bond that nobody can take from us.
That brings me to the point of this rant. I love you bastards. When we decided to form a group of drivers, we had no idea how it would go. We were worried that we would only get trailer queens or a-holes with a holier than thou attitude. We were worried of politics and a society getting too big and running away from the whole reason we started driving. Boy were we wrong.
We keep getting thanks for all the work we do on the site and with the pics and so forth, but the real thanks goes out to you guys. There will never be another club like this. Ever. Our common bond is what is at our core. We are drivers. We know what a wide open throttle feels like in a big block American v8. We are Chevy guys, Ford guys and MOPAR nuts with all types of common love for American Muscle. I used to hate anything that wasn't a Mustang. I was an idiot.
So come one come all, if you drive, if you have an American icon, if you love the road.... you are not alone. Welcome to the SCMCS, and remember..... keep the dirty side down! -Brett

Concours de' Elegance
(q:"What'll she do?" a:"No Clue!")
I just got back from the Concours and let me tell you something. "THANK GOD FOR THE SCMCS!!"
There were some beautiful brawlers there, Stingrays, Hot Rods, a Challenger, Super Cobra-Jet Mustangs, an AMX and one of the prettiest Torinos' one ever laid eyes on. I had gone in hope to get a couple of new drivers for the SCMCS, but instead found quite the opposite. One owner actually said "To tell you the truth, I have more fun driving the truck with her in the trailer behind me! I just appreciate all the modern conveniences." My friend Byron responded with "What a WASTE!" and I threw up a little in my mouth. I'm so proud to drive with all of you. YOU are the WHEELMEN (and wheelwoman Laurie) and there will never be another group as committed or badass as the SCMCS. Thanks -Brett

World Premiere of "The Z/28 ELIMIN8R"
Grab some popcorn, open a fresh can o' diet soda and get ready to watch history in the making that YOU MADE! I would like to say thank you to all of our new members, and welcome aboard the SCMCS! I'm like you, a Muscle Car freak. This means that I have a library of books on the subject, endless magazine piles and a whole dvd rack dedicated to the best collection of silver-screen muscle ever projected. However in all of my years of study and research, I have honestly never come across a better collection of driven muscle. Sure we've all seen a Muscle Car Museum or two, with Hemis, COPOS, Super Wings, 68 and 1/2 Cobra Jets, Yenkos, Baldwin Motion Phase III's and Boss 429's with 14 miles on the odometer, but those are just examples of what coulda' been. Those poor things have never slammed 2nd gear and gone sideways with all 4 barrels dumpin Texas Gold down their throats. We, on the other hand are a different story. Our history is on the road and we will keep it there God willing. I'm rambling, but I just would like to say how proud I am of this organization. Now scroll down, press play and until next time...."Keep the dirty side down!"

That was BAD ASS.
Tuesday night's cruise went off without a hitch and no one was "ELIMIN8-ted", Bill got close, but a quick distributor cap adjustment and some throttle linkage work put him back on the road. I would like to say welcome to the SCMCS to all of our new members. We are the urban legend of muscle in motion that you have heard about. Welcome aboard.
This club is only 5 months old and is only expanding. We are the ones that will build it up and keep it's foothold in the history of the muscle car. Good times, good friends and one hell of a drive, this is the SCMCS. -Brett

The SCMCS on WHHI's "Talk of the Town"
For those of you that missed the airing....
SuperSport Showdown... "a motion picture"
What could top the best muscle car cruise possible? A movie documenting the whole ride. Byron Kenneweg (the dude that resembles a young Chuck Norris) did one hell of a job risking life and limb hanging out of Jesse Cadman's 68 Pontiac Tempest getting some really sweet shots of our babies on parade. I always get excited when it comes time to edit these vids, because Byron is really talented and understands how a muscle car should be filmed. Byron has always been a muscle car freak and is so dedicated to the hobby, he sold his Roush Mustang to buy a Hyundai and film our club! Next time you see this man, buy him a beer!

I was reviewing the video of the cruise and realized that we all had... for lack of better words, a moment. In the footage, the camera walks by most of us in the crowd as we are exiting our cars immediately after the cruise. I couldn't help but notice that we were all giggling like little school girls in Saturday detention. ALL OF US. Yep even some of you real big guys with Scamps. No names.
The SuperSport Showdown brought in a lot of new talent to the club. I'm really excited about the fact that we acquired an AMX and an AC Cobra. This completes the club having representation of every automaker to ever pump out a Muscle Car. I would like to welcome all new members and say both thank you for coming out and welcome to the society of muscle car drivers and the idea of the "Rolling Car Show." Thanks also to WiseGuys for giving the SCMCS VIP treatment.
The cruise was great and the turnout was mind boggling. Our next venue should probably have a spot where we can all line up. This would ease the cruise start and also make for an awesome picture. As traffic dies with the season, our cruises should go along like butter on a hot knife.

Cruise 6: Beach, Break & Badass Big-Blocks!

Tuesday night's cruise was a huge success. Special thanks to Tim Neil and the Beach Break Grill for picking up our cruise on such short notice. I was a little worried when our original venue changed, but a quick call to Tim changed all that. The Beach Break Grill loved having us and can't wait to do it again. Neither can I. It had a great location, plenty of parking (sorry Papa John's guys) and full view of Palmetto Bay Road. This gave us a lot of exposure from passing cars and even Beaufort's finest. We have an officer that wants to join the ranks of the SCMCS and this might be a good thing for any members with lead-foot-itus.
We had a total of 7 new members and from the sound of it, plenty more are on their way. The word is out and membership is growing fast. The cruise went well except for 2 lost souls and 2 cars towed, but as Eric says: "you gotta pay to play!"
We have an invitation to WiseGuys for our next cruise and I wanted to see what you guys thought. Sure it might be like "putting a dress on a pig" as the SCMCS is a very casual group and WiseGuys is a fancy winebar, but I think it might be interesting. Also keep in mind that this is at Main Street, the known gathering place for the Carolina Dreamers. Our presence in their turf may initiate a gang war resulting in violence and bloodshed. Or not, but either way post your opinion in the Driver's Lounge forum. Until then, keep the dirty side down!

The SCMCS finally got a MOPAR!!!!
It took 5 cruises and a lot of broken promises, but after 4 cruises of strictly cars from the GM and Ford camps we finally have MOPAR representation! I could not believe how hard it was to get one of these cars up here. I made friends with a 71 Challenger owner, another 08' Challenger owner and had heard from numerous club members about Travus Towler's Scamp so I knew it was just a matter of time before our triad was complete.
When I rolled up to the Beach Break Grill on Tuesday, I about flipped. When I saw the yellow on the fenders I knew that the Scamp had arrived and my search was over. Travus's 1973 Plymouth Scamp is an awesome example of the "no frills" hurting power that MOPAR put out in its heyday. The Scamp, which shared the Valient and the Duster setup, was offered to the budget minded gearhead of the muscle car era. They gave a lot of bang for minimal buck and won the hearts of purists and speed demons alike.

Cruise #5:We're like the Postal Service...only a hellova' lot louder!
How does that old saying go "In rain or shine in snow or nuclear war"... or something like that?
Tuesday, July 7th was an interesting cruise. At first I thought that no one would come out in the rain, but Jesse and I thought "screw it" and went to the meet spot to see who would show. It was awesome. We had a lot of new members show up with their pretty cars and absolutely no qualms about getting them wet. The wet pavement made for an awesome chance for everyone to show off their high-revving parking techniques and took a gloomy day and turned the frown upside down.
However, I think this might be the last time we meet next to a residential area.
I took the opportunity to tell the officer that one of our cars had lost a drive-belt and that the only way he could keep the motor going to drive it out of there was to keep the revs above three grand. The nice officer looked at me with one of those "huh?" looks and told us to keep it down and have a nice day. Sweet.
The cruise was fun and aside from a overheated pit-stop we had no problems. Thanks to Shannon and Amy, who I had only met a couple of days before for not only braving the weather in their beautiful 68 SS Camaro, but for also shooting some video of the whole meet.
